Berry

Berry is a lipstick colour family of deep, saturated shades between red and purple, like the colour of raspberries, blackberries or cranberries.

Berry shades are cool-toned: their hue sits just on the blue side of red, and they are deeper than most pinks. In this encyclopedia, a shade is classed as berry when its hue angle falls in the narrow band between purple and red, its lightness is in the deeper half of the scale and its chroma is high. Lighter shades at the same hue are pink, shades further toward purple are plum, and muted versions are mauve.

Because berries are deep and saturated, they create clear contrast on fair, light and medium skin and a rich, tonal look on deep skin. They follow the cool-shade guideline: a natural match for cool and neutral undertones.

A lip stain in a berry shade, or a berry lipstick pressed into the lips and blotted, gives a softer, just-bitten version of the colour.
